My name is Gregory M. Rapp, and I am an American living in New Mexico, a place few people believe is an actual state in the United States. Ironically, Texans, our neighbors to the east, tend to believe that New Mexico is still part of Mexico proper. It hasn't been part of Mexico since 1848, folks. Anyways, I digress. I have degrees in history (B.A.), political science (B.S.), English literature (M.A.), and creative writing (M.F.A.). I've also studied communication, history, and political science at the graduate level, although I haven't done much with them recently.

During the day (and much of the week), I work as a college instructor, teaching English composition, freshman seminar, and political science to the masses at Clovis Community College in Clovis, New Mexico. In my infinitely shrinking free time, I maintain this blog, Back to the Holodeck, I play games (digital and analog), I read (speculative fiction and nonfiction), and I write fiction and nonfiction.

Many of the initial blog postings here were posted on my old author Website, which was phased out in August 2020. Some of the articles/blog postings could be found on Medium, when I still had an active profile over there. Newer postings have been written for Back to the Holodeck in mind.

Back to the Holodeck is meant to be a reliable source of inspiration, craft advice, and musings on storytelling, particularly storytelling in interactive media. It is also home to my musings on gaming, gameplay, gamers, and gaming cultures. Back to the Holodeck is also home to a longer, research-heavy series on the origins of the digital universe, the Information Age, and the conditions of possibility that have created something that is (somewhat) unique to human experience.

If you like what you see here, please consider sharing with friends, family members, coworkers, and/or your followers on your favorite social media platforms. I am not asking for patronage or financial support, as I have a day job that keeps me fed and with a roof over my head. I am able to afford bandwidth and scaling up this Website for now. All I ask is that you share postings and/or comment on your favorite postings.
